The Novel Notion is a soon-to-be-open mobile bookstore rolling through the hills of Southeast Ohio with one mission: to bring the joy of reading directly to you.  We specialize in trending titles, romance favorites, and bookish handmade goods—curated with care for readers who crave stories that stick with them long after the last page.

But we’re more than a bookstore—we’re a movement on wheels. Inspired by the pack horse library and bookwomen in Appalachia during the 1930s, we remove travel barriers in rural communities, making it easier to discover your next great read in the places you already love: farmers markets, festivals, downtown pop-ups, and campus corners. And with every purchase, you help us give back—a portion of all sales supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to invest in the next generation of readers across Appalachia.

Whether you're chasing your next book crush or looking for the perfect literary-themed gift, hop on board The Novel Notion. We’re bringing stories to the streets—and you’re invited.

Sam Miller, Owner

Sam is the founder and book-loving brain behind The Novel Notion. A lifelong reader and proud Appalachian, Sam launched The Novel Notion as a way to bring trending titles, cozy romance reads, and bookish charm directly to the communities of Southeast Ohio. With a background in community development, storytelling, and a passion for increasing access to the magic of reading, Sam believes bookstores should be as mobile and welcoming as the stories they carry. Through The Novel Notion, Sam isn’t just selling books—she’s building a regional reading movement that supports local makers and invests in the next generation of readers by supporting organizations like Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

When Sam is not running the behind-the-scenes operations, you can find her digging into her favorite genres: romance, fantasy, and Appalachain non-fiction. A few of her favorite authors/reads are: The Invisible Life of Addie Larue by V.E. Schwab, A Court of Thorn and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, and Weyward by Emilia Hart.
